Oxenhope Youth Club Fright Night

Fright night in Oxenhope for youngsters at the village youth club

NEARLY 40 young people have attended an arts and crafts session with a difference in Oxenhope.

Members of Oxenhope Youth Club were visited by an outreach education officer from the Leeds-based Thackray Medical Museum, who demonstrated how to apply special effects make-up to create fake wounds.

A club spokesman said: “Using special putty, make-up and fake blood, a horrifying array of fake ‘injuries’ was produced.”

“It was a great way to show young people how easily appearance can be altered using basic tools.”

“In future sessions, young people will have an opportunity to talk about body image and how images can be manipulated using make-up, special effects and air-brushing.”

Oxenhope Youth Club was set up in 2009 after Oxenhope Parish Council was approached by young residents asking for this provision. The club is led by volunteers working with Bradford Youth Service and is mainly funded by the parish council.

Upcoming sessions will include looking at the safe use of social media, First Aid training and learning cooking skills, as well as arts and crafts.

The club runs every Friday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Oxenhope Community Centre between September and April. It is open to secondary-school aged young people living in and around the village.
